On 19 June, CRETE VALLEY will take centre stage at the Student Festival of the Municipality of Minoa Pediados, taking place from 8–12 and 17–19 June 2026, to showcase the values that underpin its vision for a sustainable future: energy communities, energy democracy, a just energy transition, the circular economy, and sustainable development.
Under the title “CRETE VALLEY: Life in the Renewable Energy Valley”, the event will present the project through the creativity, imagination, and active participation of students and teachers from the primary and secondary schools of Arkalochori, the area where the Crete Valley initiative is being developed and implemented.
The programme will open with a presentation by the Minoan Energy Community, entitled “We Are the Community”, introducing Crete Valley, life in the Renewable Energy Valley, and the vital role of energy communities in shaping a sustainable and inclusive energy future.
This will be followed by a special presentation from the Samsø Energy Academy in Denmark, sharing the inspiring story of the energy self-sufficient island of Samsø through the presentation “Samsø Has Something to Tell You.”
Visitors will then have the opportunity to watch the mini-documentary “CRETE VALLEY – Energy for Tomorrow,” produced by students of the Arkalochori Vocational High School (EPAL). The film explores the vision, opportunities, and long-term benefits of the region’s energy transition through the eyes of young people.
Adding a creative and entertaining dimension to the programme, the satirical shadow theatre performance “Karagiozis Becomes Energy Self-Sufficient” will use humour and storytelling to highlight the importance of energy autonomy and the active participation of citizens in energy production and management.
The event will conclude with a musical performance by the choirs of the 1st and 2nd Primary Schools of Arkalochori, entitled “Rise Up, My Soul, Give Me Power,” featuring songs inspired by nature, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development.
Throughout the event, visitors will also be able to enjoy the student art exhibition “Life in the Renewable Energy Valley,” presenting creative works by pupils from the 1st and 2nd Primary Schools of Arkalochori and offering a visual reflection on the themes of sustainability, community, and the energy transition.
Through presentations, film, theatre, music, and art, the event celebrates the power of communities, education, and youth engagement in building a more sustainable, resilient, and energy-conscious future.
